A FAIR DEAL FOR THE MOTORIST |
|
|||||||
The Association of British Drivers is campaigning for a
fair deal for the motorist – and calls for measures to PROTECT OUR PRIVACY. |
|||||||
The government is promoting road pricing in spite
of massive public opposition. In a petition, 1.8 million people
raised their concerns over privacy as well as cost. |
|||||||
Road pricing systems on the drawing board would record drivers’ movements in
detail, opening up disastrous possibilities for the disclosure or loss of our
sensitive personal data. Surveys show that motorists don’t trust a government
that wants to widely share
or even sell our
data. |
|||||||
The government increasingly intends to record our journeys
on all major roads using CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)
technology. Images will be retained on a National Vehicle Tracking Database –
even though there is evidence that this indiscriminate surveillance is
illegal. |
